SIMPLE. FRESH. REAL.
1966 was the year my family left Aragona, Sicily and began a new chapter in Illinois. They valued small town living and the gift of being surrounded by family, therefore Rockford is where they stayed.
Soon after settling, my Nonno opened an Italian deli and grocery store. My father and uncle worked alongside him, learning that success only comes as a result of hard work. In the home, my father loved to watch his mother as she labored in the kitchen preparing all of their meals. Frozen, canned or processed food wasn’t an option; everything from her hands came simple, fresh, and real. When sitting down at her kitchen table, it was as if you were taking a seat in Sicily.
My Nonno, father and uncle opened Franchesco’s in 1986. Nonna would come to help in the kitchen, overseeing her recipes, making sure they were followed just as she prepared them.
I grew up in the restaurant as a little boy and worked alongside my father, just as he had years before. The restaurant business has been in my blood. As I grew, I knew that I didn't have to go look for my passion, but rather that it had always been in me. Through Mamma Mia’s, it is my turn to live this passion and make my Nonno and father proud. My ambition is to provide for this community a family business run with honor and respect, loyalty and customer service, and food that is simple, fresh, and real.
